Valued Professor Killebrew,
To start off, ever since I can remember I have always wanted to help people. I still remember how I’d immediately jump up when someone in the house was hurt or feeling sick. I would rush over to them and patch them up with a band-aid. Afterward, as time went on, I would always pay close attention to the procedures my pediatrician followed throughout my visits to the doctor’s office. I began to look into videos and articles on medicine, more specifically surgeries. At first, my interest in science was unsure because most of what I knew was self-taught. However, I wasn’t truly decided on science until my junior year in high school because that is when I met AP Chemistry and I was engulfed by science. I found myself naturally drawn to just about everything about chemistry, from the mols and concentration to the very bonds that hold molecules together. To sum up, the area of science that I am mostly interested in would most definitely be medicine/health care.
Secondly, I have a handful of impacts that I hope to have on the science community. The main one being that I hope to inspire other medical practitioners to think beyond simply curing a disease or making money. I hope to impact the science community by helping people who are poor and have little to no access to healthcare, receive some. Sure technology may and will be helpful in accomplishing this impact, but it is in person that the impact will be greater. By doing so, those in the science community might also feel inspired to do the same. Furthermore, I’d like to impact the global community by making healthcare and medicine available to everyone, especially those who are in areas where they have little to no technology. By doing so, my impact will be that I am helping those who have nothing all around the world.
Lastly, towards the end of this course, I hope that my writing is better and more eloquently written than it is now. Also, I hope for my writing to be more organized and to have smoother transitions as well. Moving forward on that note, I’d like to work on my transitions as well as my punctuation and making my writing comprehensible. To conclude, I hope to be able to achieve these goals through hard work and perseverance as well as completing the assignments and handing them in on time.
Sincerely,
Omar Vicuna
