The article that I read was titled “As Deaths Mount, China Tries to Speed Up Coronavirus Testing”. It spoke about the spread of the coronavirus and its’ scarily increasing death toll. The article starts off by detailing the patient of a doctor named Dr. Xiaochun. The article states that in a matter of days, the patients’ symptoms worsened from a scan of pneumonia, to straight on having the coronavirus. According to the article “The new coronavirus has sickened more than 40,000 people and killed more than 900 people in China”(NYTimes). This demonstrates that the coronavirus is extremely deadly and is quickly advancing. The article further describes how doctors in China are facing a shortage in their nucleic acid which was used in testing for coronavirus. This leads to the doctors pushing for the government to allow doctors to use ct scans to detect and stop the coronavirus from spreading. To be more specific, when using ct scans, doctors can see whether or not a patient has lesions in their lungs. These lesions are evidence of the coronavirus and by having this evidence the doctors would be able to treat the patient quicker and help prevent the spread of the disease. As the article progresses, we learn that the doctors’ request for the use of ct scans had been approved. The article states “It included a significant change: Doctors in Hubei Province should use CT scans to make a clinical diagnosis of suspected coronavirus infections”(NYTimes). The article also makes it clear that the government is trying to work with the doctors in order to help stop coronavirus from worsening.
